Hello fellow Grangers,

Its that time of year again, time to plan all our Projects for the upcoming year. Let’s have a really exciting time!

LECTURER DECREE: The Lecturer directs the entertainment and educational work of the Grange. It is my challenge to present a program that makes every meeting inspirational and meaningful for all who attend. As we share our talents, our interests, and our knowledge with each other, we all grow into better individuals and more informed citizens of this community. The symbol of my office is the scroll.

For Subordinate Lecturers

I am keeping the Lecturer Report. Take a good look at the requirements and it will be easy to make the requirements, it’s full of ideas for a program. I would like to receive the report back from each Grange by August 1st, 2012. In order to be eligible for a certificate, the report needs to be turned in by the due date as well have 5 of the 9 sections be marked yes. I’m hoping to give lots of certificates this year. Start Strong and make your lecturer programs SHINE! 

I have included the National Grange Website.  www.nationalgrange.org Along the left hand side at the  bottom, follow the pathway for Program Resources/Lecturer Program/Lecturers Guide.
Hopefully, these will help inspire ideas for anybody who needs a program at a moments notice or something for future programs.

Rules for EACH contest include the following:

2012 Contest Guidelines for every contest:
1. One entry per member may be submitted in each division.
2. Awards in each class .
3. Member name and Grange name and number must be included. Please include at time of

checking in the name of responsible party.

4. Elgibility – All Grange Members (Junior categories are specified)

Photography:

    “Falling Bridges”

I was asked for bridges once. Now covered bridges aren’t common in Illinois. So any bridge will do.  I realize Autumn is almost over, so do your best and any season is fine.

    “Frozen Trees”

I absolutely love snow on trees, so even though the changing leaves are usually the highlight of trees – I want snowy winter pictures.

    “May Flowers”

April Showers bring May flowers. I want pictures of flowers – however you want the flower to look with the essence of Spring. Close up, far away, a variety – the choice is yours.

    “The Love Boat”

Summer leads to people getting out on the water. So I want pictures of  boats. They can be docked, but with the essence of summer.

Guidelines for Photography

1. Only prints are accepted for judging. No slides

2. Participants may enter all categories, but only one entry per category, using different photographs.

3. Print may be made by a commercial process but must have been taken by the entrant personally
WITHIN THIS GRANGE YEAR.  (unless otherwise specified)

4. Backing is required for all photos. (This is so photographs are not damaged by fingerprints,
handling, pushpins, or any metal clip that will display them) NO  FRAMES.

5. Photo size should not exceed 5x7. No Frame and backing should not exceed ¾” from the
photograph and be rigid (able to free stand).

6. Members are reminded while there are not separate categories for close-ups or black and white
photos, they are welcomed in all categories.

Creative Writing:

    “My favorite season is…!”

What is your favorite season and what makes it shine?

    “If I were a season”

Poem form please.  Now this isn’t a favorite season kind of poem. This is YOU! What season would you be and why.

Guidelines for Creative Writing

1. May be handwritten, typed, or from computer. If handwritten, it must be legible & neat – no pencil;
must be written in either black or blue ink. Work must be your own creation, not copied from
   another source.

2. Length must not exceed 1 double spaced typed page (font size 12-14) or 1 ½ hand written pages.

Juniors:

“Leaf it alone”

Using leaves: tree, bush, plant, flower etc., make a craft or picture using leaves. It could be as abstract as rubbings – or a sculpture using them. Choice is yours

    “My Season”

I want you to “do” a box about your favorite season. I want to know what your favorite season is. What you like to do during it, and anything else that comes to mind.

“I Spy in Nature”

Capture an animal enjoying nature. This can happen in any season. Keep those cameras handy as you never know when it will happen.

Guidelines for Juniors

1. Eligibility — Must be Junior grange member or grandchild of Subordinate member.

2. One entry per member may be submitted in each division. (Age groups are   5-7   8-11  12-14   )

Arts & Crafts:

“Nature Seen ”

I was in 4-H and made a picture out of nothing but nature. Now it’s your turn. Using anything that is grown or found in nature,  make a craft/art/sculpture – whatever you want to call it. This can be from field or forest ;)

    “Seasons Greetings”

Draw a picture in a medium of your choosing that is not framed and less than 11x17 in size. This can be any season. The choosing is yours.

Talent:

Everyone can do something for talent. Be it singing, playing an instrument, a skit, or even telling some corny jokes or groaners. WE NEED TALENT!!  Lets not depend on the youth to do it all, but rather show the Youth how its done!! Can you imagine if just one person from each grange participates in the talent show? We would have over 30 entries WOW!!

Please email me or call if you have a specific request ahead of time. Like always, I will have a CD/cassette player on hand. Also, you NEED NOT be attending National to participate. We just want to have a fun evening.
